We are a very small scale breeder of registered Nubian goats and we are proud to be a member of The Canadian Goat Society of Canada.
I am not here with all the details of the Nubian goats, as you need to do your own research. However, I can tell you why we chose Nubian goats.
Nubian goats are termed the “dairy goat”. If you wanted a milking goat … then I was told you really wanted a Nubian. Check my milking routine here. That is “what I was after” as I wanted to venture into the area of more self-sustainability with the products in our home. Making of goat cheese (whether that be soft or hard cheese) fascinated me. The ability to make our own yoghurt, sour cream … never mind have milk on hand was a definite plus that we were looking for in our home, plus goat soap products. The projects and ideas can be endless. My attention was then focused on the Nubian.
Yes, a jersey cow would be a for sure area for some families, but I wasn’t ready to get into that. A Nubian Goat for me was a few things:
- Manageable
- Didn’t require too many special equipment needs
- Was in my price range to see would I really like the thoughts of milking an animal every day?
- They were friendly and had social personalities
So for our homestead the Nubian goat became the “must-have” for our property and our needs.
2022 became our first breeding year with kids being born at our homestead. Visit our Nubian Goats for Sale page.
