Our Story – It seems like in today’s world we all have a story. Our story is what makes us the people we are.

We could ask ourselves, does “our” story really matter to others? It sure does. Just like your story matters to us. We all end up in certain places in our lives through experiences and situations. The chapters of our lives keep moving us forward through new challenges, experiences, goals, and through this process new lifestyle skills are developed creating new memories and adding to the chapters in what will become our life stories.

Colpoy’s Bay was a new chapter for us. In 2016 when we purchased this 17-acre piece of land we now call Hilltop Homestead in Colpoy’s Bay.

We had downsized from a 70-acre horse boarding facility about 35 minutes from this piece of property. Were we sure about this?  This new piece of property we were looking at didn’t have electricity, it had a huge gravel hole in the front field, it was covered in bush, a broken down old barn, it was an eye-sore to the neighbours. Did we say it was covered in 5′ weeds? Ultimately though, it had a beauty about it that we definitely could envision was going to be our next chapter and a true home which would allow a new aspect of self-sustainability for us.

We did not purchase this property thinking of self-sustainability, homesteading, goats, chickens, or honeybees. We did realize we would have our quarter-horses here, our gardens here, our dogs here … however, this property became a living-fluid piece of who “we” would become.  Modern Homesteaders

Are we experts? No. Is anyone really? Life is about learning and developing as you go. We will talk about the things that have worked (or not worked) for us. Join us on our journey.
